Happy Hearts Club
Red and pink unite - this year let's celebrate Valentine's Day - without the ridiculous teddy bears and overpriced cards thank you very much
The Hubster does not believe in Valentine’s Day. He tells me that society should not dictate when he should be romantic and with what kind of overpriced cards, scentless roses, ghastly mugs and teddy bears. While I agree on the ghastly mug part, I disagree on the lack of celebration bit. A bit like birthdays, I believe we need reminders to celebrate the important people in our lives. To take stock and spend some time enjoying each others’ company. We should revel in the love around us, which not everyone is lucky enough to share. That being said, it can either be at the most exclusive spa in town, clinking Bellinis and enjoying couples massages, or it can be a picnic on the beach. Whatever your fancy, you don’t have to spend money - it’s all about the time. Time is not something we give our nearest and dearest often enough. It’s either ‘conveniently’ slotted in at kids birthday parties, sports days or exercise classes or it’s just not prioritised because well - life. But this year I’m going out. Because if Mr Grinch doesn’t want to get romantic, I’m taking matters into my own hands and sharing the love elsewhere…
To be clear - that means an evening with some friends, an action movie and gin soaked slushy at my favourite art nouveau movie theatre in town. And you best believe I’m dressing up. Because I’ve realised that ‘saving’ my best shoes or new dress is pointless. I have no gala openings to attend, no special occasions to save for. Life is meant to be lived, so the wardrobe will be out in full force this gooey heart-obsessed day. Forget the pyjamas - this is the way into my heart….
Going out…

Staying In…
If you are joining the grinches of this world and staying in (no judgement here) there are some serious viewing delights to get stuck into…
Usher’s Super Bowl Half Time Show
There is a meme doing the rounds of the internet that goes, “2023 Super Bowl: Rihanna is pregnant. 2024 Super Bowl: We’re all pregnant.” And that’s because Usher’s half time Super Bowl performance is the Valentine’s treat we didn’t know we needed. The topless dance moves, the cracker old school classics, the outfits and the roller skates. Give yourself 13 minutes of sweaty appreciation for this entertainer…
One Day
Okay I've only watched one episode of this romantic drama based on the book by David Nichols. At first I thought - nothing can compare to the OG movie of the same name starring Anne Hathaway and Jim Sturgess. But I’ve decided anything starring Leo Woodall is allowed. The first episode is a bit slow to pull you in, but if you are Netflix and chilling anyway you’ve got nowhere to go? So enjoy this nostalgic trip into your awkward youth as two very different individuals criss cross throughout the decades. Major props for the soundtrack and Edinburgh styling. I’m looking forward to binging the rest soonest.

Feud: Capote vs The Swans
And then if you live abroad where Hulu is a thing (alas in the backwaters of my country such a platform does not exist) please watch Feud: Capote vs The Swans for me. With an A-list cast of everyone from Calista Flockhart to Naomi Watts, A-list locations and A-list styling this saucy romp through 60’s New York creme de la creme has me hitting refresh on all of my subscriptions services in the hopes that it will appear for my viewing pleasure. Read the backstory here and then revel in the series. What a scandal!
And you my gorgeous friend! xx
Happy V-day lovely xx
