The ultimate couple's Netflix binge and a feel good fashion week runway wrap up
Looking for a couple's Netflix watch? I've got you and your significant other covered. And then everything you need to know about Fashion Week. It's just about feel-good fashion hun...
It’s all about the couple cuddle and Netflix and Chill right?
Wrong. Trying to Netflix and chill with your significant other can be a highly stressful affair. Because if, like me, what he needs to chill (superheroes, sport or excessive violence) versus what I need to chill (Selling Sunset and Emily in Paris) are two very different animals. So invariably it becomes a night of watching trailers or reruns of Friends. I know.
And before the singles reading this tell me that having a couple problem is a good problem to have, I hear you. I feel you and your need to have a couch cuddle. I just want to point out that not sharing the tv remote is a single life win. So go forth and catch up on all the drivel you want because if a man enters your life (or any partner for that matter) the freedom to chose your leisure time pursuits wanes significantly…
To be fair the Hubster and I had a good run of watching Yellowstone - some cowboy candy for me, the dream of being a cowboy for him. Everyone was happy. But we have taken a break from the intense melancholy and never-ending family dramas for a little bit. It gets overwhelming, the whole ‘ my ranch against the world’ episode after episode.
But I come bearing good news! We got stuck into Nobody Wants This featuring the hilarious Kristen Bell and Adam Brody (yes he of teenage The OC fame). And the series poster and trailer didn’t fill me with too much hope but was I wrong. WHAT a treat! Good writing, interesting character dynamics, an actual storyline. And the acting doesn’t involve licking ones lips and trying to hog each scene. My God it’s a tv revelation! Look, I don’t think its going to win any major awards (although it might, considering the drivel that’s currently out there) but this is just a good watch. We binged 7 episodes in one night (unheard of). We only called it a day when we realised we had a toddler to look after in the morning and needed every ounce of sleep we could get. So I don’t know how it ends but based on the fact that every episode has surprised me thus far, I’m excited.
The only thing that freaks me out is that Kristen Bell has done something to her face and I have spent about 3 episodes quietly wondering what it is. If you have any insight please share below. Otherwise enjoy!
Fashion Week Returns
Fashion Week has been on in my peripheral vision this season. I don’t know if its the sheer volume (see what I did there?) of shows, designers, celebrities and viral moments, but as usual I’m overwhelmed. If you are feeling the same then I am here to add order to the frou frou chaos. Here is a little Round 1 Runway Round Up. Because while Dior continues to confuse us (why are there archers in the show?!) and other brands like YSL - or sorry Saint Laurent - grasp heavily for new ways of reinventing their archives, there have been some beautiful moments to celebrate. It’s a bit of a pic ‘n mix. No one show has really blown me away thus far but here is a round up of what I have found to be artistic, exciting or joyous. Please share anything I might have missed…
New York
Michael Kors
Michael Kors is a bit of the H&M of the fashion week world. It’s safe and pretty but boring. The brand doesn’t carry the heritage of Tommy Hilfigger or Ralph Lauren (speaking of - the RL Hamptons extravaganza was NEXT LEVEL, go find it). I’ve alwaus thought of it as a good spot to buy job interview trousers that will last a lifetime or that classic wedding guest dress. Well this season I loved it. Maybe because I’m seeing so much weird brat girl summer knitwear and platform boots that a frolic through the world of pretty and sophisticated was just the ticket. Not all of it mind you - nobody needs a mid length flared denim skirt with applique flowers (vomit) but the little off the shoulder sweetheart boatnecks and other captivating necklines along with clever use of texture and a minimised colour palette spoke to me. Well done Mr Kors, its moody, its romantic and I approve.
London
Erdem
The roaring 20’s meets a modern oversized sensibility in Erdem’s spring presentation. It kicked off with pre-spring, which I guess was a bit of a teaser. Not sure what pre-spring is - end of winter? February 29th? Who knows. What I can tell you that this teaser/trailer situation paved the way for a spring collection that was dripping in beautifully crafted, considered pieces. It has something for everyone. Sophisticated tailoring, silks, satins, suits and this bejewelled coat that must be mine. Alas it most likely never will be mine, but I’m putting it on my vision board anyway.
Milan
Gucci
Shocker I know. I have hated what’s been happening at Gucci (see below comment at Schiaperelli) but this season felt good. Solid, sexy, playful, clever ready to wear. It might be getting a little confused with Tod’s or Bottega or Prada, Versace and Missoni. Actually maybe its confused with the whole of the Italian design contingent, but I like it.
Fendi
Obsessed. Grown up, stylish, swish, sexy, sultry. All the S’s. Yes Yes yes. Its a good mix of fashion and wearability. Damn it those Italian heiresses know how to dress for success.
Paris (so far)
Schiaparelli
Schiaparelli can go one of two ways. It can blow up the way Alessandro Michele’s Gucci did by becoming more bird than feather. Or it can become the stuff of creative legend. I pray to the fashion gods for the latter. This season’s show titled ‘future vintage’ (clever) carries a total of 44 looks and everything feels considered. I want it all. The brand is feeling my mood with its description of why by being small, “it allows you to design with real purpose, and for us purpose wins over the banal every time. The world may feel more chaotic than ever, but here, the mood is celebratory: both of what fashion can be, but of how fashion can make you feel.” J’adore.
Balmain
Over the years Balmain has had its ups and downs. Olivier Rousteing definitely has a look. Stripes, shoulders, bandage dresses. It’s all overtly seksy (said with a french accent). And I haven’t always been a fan. But this season? This season, this hand lip number was a moment. For the rest of the collection I loved the birdlike nipped-in waists and oversized shoulders. There were some questionable shoes and the use of satin and chain detail is concerning but overall bravo Olivier!
Courègges
Courègges is not a brand I know at all, but the tailoring, the feather ear cuff detail, the accessories and the colour palette can live rent free in my mind for quite some time. This feels like that moment when Kim and Kanye first started collaborating. Before she started wearing weird Skims shapewear with oversized leather jackets to Trader Joes. This is tailored, simple and sporty. Not sure about the boob tape situation but somehow it all works on unattainable rail thin bodies.
Loewe
Loewe is that cool kid on the subway that you want to look like but no matter what you do, and how much you buy, you will never attain the vision. Because you need to be 21 and look like Ayo Edibiri. Not even Daniel Craig and Rachel Weisz can pull it off. Much as they are couple goals. Although one can dream. And dream I will. Of mermaid coat frocks, midriff details and textural elegance.
Oooh thank you for the new Netflix recommendation. We will give that a watch :) We enjoyed Perfect Couple too!
I agree, what the heck has Kristen Bell done to her face 🤦♀️
