This Week's Frivolities
Last week was a bit doom and gloom so this week its all frothy celebrities, drinking cups and OG super models. Basically all the good stuff...
But First - A Quick Thank You
I got so many amazing responses to last week’s post about failing at life. I am so grateful to all the friends and strangers who reached out, nodding their heads in agreement with my time sapped rant. A problem shared and all that jazz is really true. By offloading I felt so much better and it’s gloriously heart warming to know that you are all in the same dark pit of chaos as me! But in all seriousness thank you. Thank you for reading. Thank you for commenting and messaging me and making me feel like I’m not a crazy person. I appreciate the love.
So this week it’s all about the frivolity. Let’s take 5 to read about all sorts of badly dressed celebs (of which there are so many), viral trends gone wrong and the OG Super that keeps on giving… Enjoy…
PS And if there is anything you want to read about please hit me up- I’m always up for a request - serious, silly or otherwise.
The Stanley Cup Madness
Another day another nut job viral trend. I remember in the mid 2010’s it was the Marc Jacobs bunny eared phone cover. Does anybody remember those? Am I showing my age? I recently spotted said accessory on an episode of New Girl and nearly cried at the memory of my beautiful lumo pink bunny ear covered phone that was stolen at Gap, Oxford Street (easy to spot in your bag, easy to be sticky fingered out of your bag as well). Recently it’s been Fieldbars.
The ultimate 30-something accessory at all barbecues, beach picnics and outdoor concerts. If you don’t have one who even are you and how are you chilling your drinks?
But now apparently Stanley Cups are having a moment. You know Stanley That stainless steel thermos and flask supplier of camping trips gone by? Well their super sized drinking cups with straw are the accessory of the moment. So much so that the brand, who almost discontinued them because of pathetic sales, has re-launched them in ALL of the colours. Yes every shade. And people are stocking up like they are going into a drinking cup apocalypse. Recently there was a stampede captured at a Target outlet for these much desired slurpy accessories. For every sneaker you own there must now be a matching Stanley.

The press they have received has been phenomenal. In November a woman named Danielle posted a TikTok showing her car after a fire, and a Stanley cup that had survived in the cup holder amid the wreckage. She picked it up and shook it: the telltale tinkle of ice cubes, which had remained frozen despite the flames.
At first I was jealous. I wanted a ridiculously large yet stylish drinking implement. But now I am now thoroughly loving the memes of people toting actual full sized rubbish bins as their Stanleys. These cups are enormous with a ridiculous price tag to match. In South Africa they go for a cool R1,300.00 a pop and they are currently out of stock on YuppieChef so good luck trying to jump on the insulated bandwagon. While you keep hitting refresh in the hopes that it will enter your cart, here are some clips of mock Stanley content to make you feel better…

Cindy Flaunting It…
Can we give Cindy a huge round of snaps. The OG Supermodel recently shot in Los Angeles for Flaunt Magazine. Move over….well everyone. So beautiful, so sexy and that hair? Sensational. She’s now seen on Edward Enninful’s last British Vogue cover (blows nose while tears stream down face) as well as the new Donna Karen New York relaunch. You. GO. GIRL.
Grammys Do’s and Don’ts…
I’m finding the state of sartorial state of affairs on the Grammy red carpet…concerning. Concerning and…well just concerning… I realise that a lot of celebs have ‘a look’. Like Lenny Kravitz or Lana Del Rey. But seriously when your ‘look’ includes facial tattoos of the designer you are wearing or red roots and reading glasses, I just think maybe you need a stylist change. Tout de suite!
Here are my notes from the weekend that was The Grammys…
Kat Graham
A nun and a shark walk into…each other. The end.
Taylor Swift
Tay Tay can do no wrong. She has the legs of a giraffe, the hair of a Brazilian model, the red lip capacity of a L’Oreal campaign. It’s too much for me. As host Trevor Noah put it - the GDP of all the tables around her as she walks past them improves…
Lana Del Rey
She’s one of those stars who has a ‘look’. Often it’s a bit out there and nostalgic, but this ‘straight-from-the-wake’ vibe is not doing it for me. I appreciate the cohesion but the hemline, the bows and the doctor’s bag age her by about 20 years. Especially when standing next to the goddess that is. Thank you Lana, next…
Billie EiiiiiiiLish
There is nothing ‘Lish’ about this look. I am just not sure what is going on here. Is she going to a poetry reading? A Tuesday half price movie with friends? Whatever it is, it’s just not working. This event has a red carpet, no red regrowth required…
Ditto Doja Cat
As Cosmo put it, “there is just nothing nice to say about this look.” The tatts, the nip slips, the reading glasses, the red stripper heels. It’s a lot. In fact it’s too much. This is officially my worst dressed of the year and we are only in February…
Calvin Harris
Calvin the 70’s called and they want…everything back. Bless the poor sausage he is trying to glam it up, but this look and the beard and the shiny loafers just do nothing for me.
G.I. Ed
So close Eddy boy - that suit is fab. Cameo with a shot of red, good hardware details and a decent fit. And then you chose to wear those Tron-esque black sneakers and ruined the whole thing. So close….
Chrissy Tiegen
Controversial but I actually quite like this look. It’s fun, fresh, flirty and SIMPLE which is key. So many looks are so accessory heavy that it’s refreshing to see Chrissy paring it down. Now if only the same could be said about her face filler…
Miley
I am in two minds about this one. On the one hand it is Margiela and made of safety pins. Yes the ENTIRE thing has been safety pinned together. So it’s couture. A painstaking work of art. But then there’s the hair. Miley’s crazy eye. The gold and mustard heels. I just don’t know. Its like when Cleo met Dolly Parton and went to the Grammys…The only thing I will say is that Miley’s on stage performance look by Bob Mackie is a win. It’s fun, it’s young and it’s the right side of dancing with the stars so the hair works with the sparkle. The rest is a bit too showgirl for me, but then again Dolly is her godmother so hey ho…
Beyonce
A bit like Billie I just don’t get it. The cowboy hat (okay she’s from Texas), the blonde barbie hair (so 2023) and a little leather suit which I will admit is cute (it is Louis Vuitton after all). But the whole thing comes across a bit un-Queen B’. Blue Ivy looked equally confusing in a bridal-princess gown by Vivienne Westwood (she’s 12 not 28 for goodness sake). What is going on in the Carter household…
Paris Jackson
So everyone is doing cut outs to great effect. Except Kat Graham (see above). But I really like this Paris Jackson ensemble. This girl is SO beautiful and usually she pulls a Meghan Fox and does too much (see Meghan at this Grammys viewing party) But this is slick with good glam and accessories. I’m not sure why she covered up the tats, something about giving the Celine dress room to shine, but the whole thing looks fabulous and all event appropriate.
The Other Kylie
Dressing Kylie Minogue must be a nightmare because she is sprite sized. You need to give enough to help the poor gal stand out amongst the Tay Tay’s of this world, but so much that she looks like an overdressed Oompa Loompa trying to make page 6. This dress is a good balance of bold drama and subtle sophistication. I love the red lip but I do wish the hair had been pulled back.
Would love to see some of your own sartorial choices from your wardrobe!
